The VK 36.01 (H) was an experimental German heavy tank developed during World War II. Only eight chassis and one complete prototype were produced by Henschel. At this time, Henschel was tasked with developing a groundbreaking weapon that would be on par with the Red Army's current heavy tank models. Other experimental heavy tanks and superheavy tanks were built, designed and tested by Henschel. The experience gained from the VK 36.01 (H) project served as the basis for the development of the VK 45.01 (H), the prototype of the Panzerkampfwagen VI “Tiger”.
